In his talk, Daniel Pink challenges the traditional belief that rewards and punishments are the most effective motivators for human behavior. He cites studies, including one conducted at MIT, which show that while higher rewards improve performance in simple, mechanical tasks, they actually lead to worse performance when tasks require even basic cognitive skills. Pink explains that beyond taking financial concerns off the table, three factors drive better performance and satisfaction: autonomy, mastery, and purpose.
